National Art School HSC Intensive Studio Practice: Application Drawing 1 (2009) - 1 of 2 connected works

Hand drawing is one of my preferred disciplines in art. After being invited from my high school art teacher to make an application to the National Art School HSC Intensive Studio Practice, I applied my small project of two A4 surrealistic hand drawings; one of which can be seen above.

The drawings were created using pencil as the medium and the technique of hatching was used for shading. In the end, my application to participate at the National Art School was accepted. As a result, I later underwent two life drawing modules which also counted as a HSC Art Extension course.

Planting Design: The John Lions Garden, UNSW, Kensington Campus, Sydney, Australia (2012) - 1 of 3 connected works

During a landscape architecture course at the University of New South Wales, I had the opportunity to create planting designs as a project. Part of this project involved making a landscape design portfolio first, based off research. The portfolio involved an analysis of three landscape designs. Hence, the first analysis is of The John Lions Garden, UNSW, Kensington Campus which demonstrates my research, documentation and hand drawing skills; that has been completed with Staedtler Fineliner pens.

One Room Paradise: The Making Of Beautiful Things (2013) - 1 of 3 connected works

The aim of this project was to generate one room that represents paradise. Hence, the design idea of paradise in this project is security, a sense of stability and simultaneously freedom. This idea is completely expressed in my final 1:50 model, which reflects my model making skills. The final 1:50 model is composed of a large transformable structure that can wrap around an island which has two portable stairs and a portable sculpture. Hence, the transformable structure provides protection to the island. In contrast, due to the adaptable nature of the elements on the island, it creates an unrestricting environment for the occupants.

Sensing Media: A3 Fashion Poster (2017) - 1 of 2 connected works

This project is composed of two experimental A3 posters that represent a specific media experience which have been created using my illustrator skills. Hence, this poster represents the media experience of looking through a fashion magazine called InStyle.

Typographic Space: Letterforms For The Alphabet (2017) - 1 of 2 connected works

Being a lover of typography, I was thrilled to finally make my own typographic letterforms from scratch for this project, using my Illustrator skills. This project required a new design of typographic letterforms for the alphabet. For this project, I was inspired by nature’s beauty and designed fluid letterforms to represent that as nature can be everchanging. In terms of the presentation of the project, it was a course requirement that the typographic letterforms needed to be presented as a set of letters and in a sentence. Hence, the above image showcases the new set of letterforms created for this project.

Publication Space: Cover (2017) - 1 of 2 connected works

This project was about a publication design. The theme chosen was architecture which is a field that I have always found interesting. I created a front and back cover design as well as spreads. This project was enjoyable to undertake as I was able to use elements from a past spatial project such as photographs and drawings when designing the layout of the publication. Hence, you can see the cover design of the publication in this portfolio as well as a spread.

Here you can see a spread from the publication design. Thus, this project demonstrates my InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator skills.

Visual Identity Design: Brochure (2018) - 1 of 2 connected works

This project is about a new visual identity design that I created for the youth mentoring organisation called, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Australia using my Illustrator and Indesign skills. The project involved making various elements one of which was a brochure hence, the work above. The work above showcases one side of the brochure. In addition, the designs for the new visual identity was based of research into the organisation before anything was created.

The Chocolate Space: Animation (2018) - 1 of 2 connected works

This animation was generated using Vectorworks 2018. The goal of this project was to create a multifunctional, interactive and universal space for the general public in the Chatswood area, Sydney. The new design for the up-level space of the Chatswood Interchange includes three main areas. Area one; is a leisure space, which is on the first floor. Area two; is an eating space, which is also on the first floor. In addition, area three; is the socialising space which is on the second floor.

The key feature of the newly designed space is a giant chocolate fountain which has a glass wall that surrounds it to allow only a maximum of two people in the area at a time to access the chocolate. It is this giant chocolate fountain that is located in the eating space and leads into the socialising space on the second floor. Other attractions to the new design are, the comfortable leisure space that features beanbags and two lounges on the first floor and the various lounges in the socialising space, on the second floor as well as the natural plants, which are on both floors. Overall, this new design has been created to bring communities in the Chatswood area together.

A UNSW Biophilic Student-led Space: Model (2019) - 1 of 3 connected works

This final 1:100 model is from my Design (Honours) research project which represents a redesigned student-led space from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and demonstrates my model making skills. The model was generated after conducting research into the concept of biophilia, biophilic design, biophilic precedents and learning environments; specifically, UNSW student-led spaces. Hence, the result of this project led to redesigning the student-led space; Learning Commons located in Block E (E110) at UNSW Paddington Campus with biophilic design. UNSW Paddington campus is located on Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney, Australia. Also, an animation of the Learning Commons was also created to further showcase how biophilic design can be implemented into the space. In addition to this, a diagram was produced to explain how to make a UNSW Biophilic Student-led Space, hence; see the A UNSW Biophilic Student-led Space: Design Guide.

Only three biophilic patterns are present in final design of the space because they have been supported by rigorous empirical data to improve the health and well-being of building occupants (Browning, Ryan, & Clancy, 2014, p12). The first pattern evident is the Visual Connection with Nature; hence the plants, greenwalls, a water feature and green roof have been designed into the space. The second pattern featured is Prospect so, transparent materials, an open floor plan and views to the outdoors was designed into the space. The third pattern featured is Refuge, thus, a concealed study room and partially concealed study rooms were designed into the space. In addition to the patterns being employed in the design, other research findings were also considered when designing the space. For instance, zones were designed into the space since there had not been any in the previous design.
